Within the project “Heritage as Placemaking” (2021-2025 funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), my own research expanded to look at heritage performance practices in Janakpurdhām and the Tarai-Madhes area.
My current research—developed in my forthcoming 2027 monograph The Temple and the Stage (Springer, forthcoming)—applies spatial theory to performance and heritage, exploring how physical and ideological spaces are constructed, marginalized, and reclaimed. This builds directly upon my earlier work on the spatial politics of protest, where I documented how urban artists in Kathmandu tactically occupied heavily policed streets during the 2006 democracy movement, transforming the everyday geography of the city into a site of political contestation.
