Last hours in a Kathmandu clad in purple and soft rain. What a relief after the heat of the Tarai. Returning to Nepal after a few years – and including a pandemic – felt strange at first. Even though the new work was exciting, I felt slightly estranged as I walked and saw the changes in the city, micro’s stops moved, old cafés closed to leave space to new shops, wondering ‘have I really lived here for so long?’. But as I met friends/bhai/bahini haru from the theatre, from former Sen Chyang, from the project in Bharoul, etc. ‘my Nepal’ where I felt at home came fully back, as if I had never left. I could not greet everyone, nor could I spend as much time as I wished chatting, but there will be more in the future.
